Notes from the Chair
Reflecting on the past year, we have journeyed through significant changes and achievements. At this time last year, I was honored to be elected as Chairman, succeeding Bernhard, who dedicated many years of service to this role.
This year has also seen a transition within the EPSMA secretariat, as Paul Lee has chosen to shift his focus towards retirement. I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Paul for his exemplary work over the years, particularly for his guidance and support in mentoring Jonathan, our new secretary who joined us at the start of the year. A special thanks also goes to Jonathan for bravely taking on the responsibilities of this demanding position, which often involves much effort behind the scenes.
Throughout the year, we have tackled numerous important topics. One of the key highlights early on was our collaborative effort in revising the European Eco Design Regulation for External Power Supplies. Together with ZVEI, we provided thorough feedback on the drafts and engaged in productive discussions with EU Policy Officer Cosmin Codrea, ultimately securing an exemption for industrial and commercial power supplies.
I also want to acknowledge Rolf Winter from the ZVEI power supply team for his invaluable partnership in this endeavor. Our cooperation exemplifies a win-win scenario for both organizations.
Another pressing matter we addressed this year involved electrical safety. The TC108’s efforts to eliminate input voltage derating specifications from power supplies demanded our attention. While we provided comments on their draft proposals, navigating communication with TC108 has proven to be quite challenging.

EPSMA MC meeting 12th November 2024
- We welcomed 10 members to our annual meeting in Munich, with an additional 8 participants joining virtually. It was wonderful to engage with so many of you!
- Today, we took a moment to thank Paul Lee for his invaluable contributions to the EPSMA. We look forward to building on the strong foundation he has helped establish within our organization.
- Our discussions included new legislation concerning the Cyber Resilience Act. A new paper was proposed for consideration by the technical committee to provide essential guidance to manufacturers on compliance.
- We addressed the growing demand from organizations to share product carbon footprint data. We acknowledged the need for guidance on calculating this information consistently, which will help ensure all manufacturers are on equal footing.
